The Benevolent

The President of the Association of Stewards of the Immaculate Conception, accompanied by his Board of Directors, Stewards, Senior Assistants, Presidents and Corporals of the different Groups of Squads, goes to the Town Hall to request permission from the Mayor, as the first Municipal Authority, requesting permission to begin the festive days in honour of the Holy Virgin of the Castle, in accordance with the Ordinances regulated by Charles III. “That on the 5th of December in the afternoon, having requested the Beneplácito from the Royal Justice, two boxes or drums are to be called for the devotees of the Most Holy Mary, who wish to show their zeal by going out to shoot in the soldiers, and to announce to the whole town the feast and the function with which it is to be solemnised…”. (Agreement 1 of the Chapters of the Ancient Ordinances of 15 November 1786). Afterwards, the procession will go to the Town Hall to raise the flags and fire the 15 rockets, answered from the Sanctuary of the Castle. Venue: Juan Miguel Benedito Rodríguez Municipal Auditorium. Starting time: 12:30 p.m.

The Punchas

In the afternoon, the halberdier sergeants, characterised by their eighteenth-century halberds and better known as LOS TIOS DE LAS PUNCHAS, and accompanied by boxes, will make the protocol and symbolic invitation to the neighbourhood through the streets of the town, to join in the collective joy of the celebration of the Fiestas de la Virgen.
