La Alborada

Departure of the Mayordomo de la Bandera who, wearing the cap, medal and arquebus, and accompanied by the previous year’s Mayordomos, cashier, Sargento Alabardero and two Oficiales Mayores, will go to the home of the Mayordomo del Bastón to pick him up and continue to the Atrium of the Basilica.

At 6:00 a.m., in the Atrium of the Basilica ALBORADA; at the door of the sacristy the Mayordomos and the Mayordomos of the previous year will be placed.

The Senior Officials, boxes and Halberdier Sergeants will stand at the door of the Basilica, the six closed coffers will be fired (three for each Mayordomo), at the end of which they will go to the home of the Mayordomo del Bastón.

The Oficiales Mayordores together with the directors of the Asociación de Mayordomos will offer the collation to the accompanying soldiers.

Afterwards, the three closed arches are fired, after which the Mayordomo del Bastón will say goodbye to the soldiers and the return to the home of the Mayordomo de la Bandera will begin, with another round of collation and then the three closed arches will be fired, and the Mayordomo de la Bandera will say goodbye to the soldiers, thus ending the Alborada.

The Descent

After picking up the Captain (Mayordomo del Bastón) from the Ensign (Mayordomo de la Bandera), the ascent to the Sanctuary of the Castle will begin together with all the arquebusiers that make up the Martín Soriano Zaplana Company. After the protocolary greeting of the soldiers to the image of our Patron Saint, and after the firing of the corresponding «Arcas Cerradas» in the Sanctuary, the descent towards the city will begin. During the descent, the image will stop in front of the door of the Old Church, as this is the church that housed the Patron Saint until 1868. On the arrival of the image of La Virgen del Castillo at the Town Hall, the first municipal authority will pronounce the «3 Vivas» and then continue the descent of the image to the Atrium of the Basilica to the sound of gunshots fired by the soldiers in the form of «Arcas Cerradas», ending the act with the celebration of the Holy Mass to welcome our Patron Saint. Once La Bajada has finished, the Mayordomos will be accompanied to their respective homes. Starting time: 9 a.m. in the Plaza de España.

The Offering

In the afternoon, the procession will depart from the home of the Mayordomo de la Bandera to the home of the Mayordomo del Bastón (where the Mayordomo del Bastón will join the procession). The parade, made up of all the squads of the Martín Soriano Zaplana Company, will pass through the central streets of the city, ending at the Basílica de la Purísima with the offering of flowers to the Virgin.
